In 1968 BMC approached Peel Engineering on the Isle of Man to build new moulds and a handful of prototypes for a GRP (Fibreglass) bodied Mini. BMC planned production of the Mini in Chile as import of complete cars into Chile was prohibited at the time.
This car is one of two surviving British built prototypes. (Two others were crash tested at Mira in 1968 with very good results) It was used as a company staff car test vehicle and covered over 100,000 miles in its first few years. That it still survives 40 years later is a tribute to the design.
